Adhesive Label Slitting Blades
Adhesive labels are carried on a release liner which serves as a hard surface for die cutting and reliable transport during printing, converting and application of the label. This release paper needs to be slit in different strokes in order to obtain seperate label rolls. When slitting these release papers we distinguish 2 main types of liner, plastic and paper, based on the type of liner used we offer a different grade of our industrial razor blades.
Slitting Labels on Plastic Film Liner
Plastic film liner, often PET or PP film, are used for their extra strenght and are often used in high speed and demanding packaging lines. These release papers are very thin and are ideal for slitting with industrial razor blades, especially interesting when slitting very close to the edge, where the quality of the slit is important. For these applications, minimal friction is key, our Fortis razor blades offer a cost effective solution for smaller production runs and an alternative for the more difficult to configure pressure or shear slitting blades.
Slitting Labels on Paper Liner
Paper release liners, generally Glassine of Kraft bases papers, are more agressive for adhesive and abrasive wear and are more prone for dust formation during slitting. For these applications our most robust Fortis + and Fortius razor blades offer a great solution to reduce dust and improve production efficiency.
Shrink Sleeve Label Slitting Blades
Shrink sleeve labels are a type of labeling solution that uses heat to conform a plastic film sleeve around the contours of a product's container. The plastic film used, typically offers durability and resistance to moisture and abrasion, which makes shrink sleeve labels challenging to slit.
In the shrink sleeve labels production, razor blades are used in 2 different stages
Source roll slitting
Slitting the source roll in different strokes can be done with razor blades. Since the strokes are sealed together it is important that the edges of the slit stroke is smooth and clean, as corrugated edges can cause issues when sealing.
Shrink Sleeve Slitting Machines
The tube label is then put over the container and cut off to length,
Often we find that these shrink sleeve machines use Injector Razor Blades, these are the smallest industrial razor blades, meticulously crafted to fit injector-style holders.

Industrial Blades for Slitter Rewinders
Slitter Rewinder Machines
A slitter rewinder is a machine used to slit a master roll of material to a smaller width. In this process the master roll is unwound, slit into multiple lanes and then rewound again to a smaller roll, hence the name slitter rewinder. This is done to further process the material in the next steps of a production process.
Slitter Blades for Slitting Labels
Industrial razor blades, noted for their acute sharpness and slim profile, are used for slitting delicate materials such as plastic films and foils. Their design ensures accurate incisions, optimal for demanding slitting tasks.
Industrial Razor Blade Recommendations
When selecting blades, consider the thickness, material composition, and any additional coatings which might influence performance. Blades are designed in various forms such as 3-hole, Slotted, Gillette Type... The selection depends on the specifics of the blade holder design utilized in the slitting machinery.
