Blade Lexicon

1. Single versus Double edged blades

Artboard 1

The majority of the blades are double edged. For safety reasons, more and more customers do ask for single edged blades. During operation the blade only cuts on one edge. The other edge is unprotected and depending on the blade holder, harmful for operator hands.

2. Chisel versus Symmetric blades

2 Artboard 1

Symmetric edge blades are the most popular. For high speed slitting, the symmetric shape is most important to obtain an equilibrium of the pressure on the blade. A chisel edge blade receives the pressure of the film on the inclined side pushing the both sides of the blade aside.

3. Number of bevels

3 Artboard 1

A double bevel combines the sharpness and higher lifetime. Single bevel blades are applied to reduce grinding costs obtaining cheaper blades.
